Tamang Heritage walking holidays 11 Days

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1337m)

You are welcomed to Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal renowned for historical monuments, Hindu Temples, and Buddhist Stupas/Monasteries. We meet our guests at the Tribhuvan International Airport. A representative will be waiting with a Himalayan Vacation Treks and Expedition placard with our guests’ names displayed. After dropping luggage at the hotel, guests are taken for a short sightseeing tour. In the evening, guests are invited to a Welcome Dinner at a Nepali restaurant.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu (1337m)

A local guide will be available. According to your wishes, the guide will escort you for sightseeing. Sightseeing may include the Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupati,  Boudhanath, Patan Durbar Square, and the Swoyambhunath areas.  Starting after breakfast, usually at 9.00am, the exploration of Kathmandu Valley can continue until 5.00pm. Lunch and dinner, you will be responsible for.

Day 03: kathmanud – shyapru besi (1503m) 8-9 hours drive

Around 7-8 hours of driving from Kathmandu takes us to Shyapru Besi which is situated in the bank of Trishuli River and where we spend our first night. This day we can see the panoramic view of Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Ganesh, as well as some peaks of Langtang area from the window of the bus while driving. Shyapru Besi is a Tamang (Buddhist) village. Hence we see several mani walls, chyorten and can visit the gompa.

Day 04: shyapru besi – gatlang (2238m) 4-5 hours

We begin walking after an early breakfast today to experience this rich trek. After an hour and half of ascent from Shyapru Besi we reach the view point from where we can see the incredible view of Ganesh Himal, Gosaikunda range and the Goljang valley. Now we head down to Goljang valley for lunch which is an hour’s walk down hill from the view point. Gatlang the beautiful Tamang village is another 3 hrs’ walk from Goljang. We spend the night in one of the houses in the village.

Day 05: gatlang -tatopani (2607m) 5-6hours

Today might be the longest day of walking in the entire trip since we will walk about 7 hours. The walk begins by descending to Thangbuchet beside the Bhotekoshi River. We stop for the lunch here. The Chilime Hydropower dam is situated here. After lunch the trail will be ascending up crossing a suspension bridge. The ascent continues until we get to Tatopani which literally means ‘hot water’, we can cleanse ourself in natural hot springs with bathing areas in the lap of the mountains. Local people believe that the water has a healing quality that eases away our aches and pains. We spend the night in one of the houses in the village.

Day 06: Tatopani – Thuman (3164m) 4-5 hours

After an ascent today, we stop for lunch at Brimdang village. After lunch the trek continues ascending to Nagthali Danda at 3300m. We can enjoy the panoramic view and spend some time at the top having a cup of hot tea prepared by the care taker of the Gompa. The trek continues down to Thuman, a Tibetan influenced Tamang village with friendly people who love to sing and dance to entertain us. We spend the night in one of the houses in the village.

 Day 07: Thuman – briddhim (2229m) 5-6 hours 

We walk through flat trail in the beginning and descend to Timure through the route to the old trade route to Tibet. We stop here for lunch. The border of Nepal and Tibet is just a 3 hours walk away here. After lunch the trail continues for Briddhim another Tibetan influenced Tamang village. A home stay at Briddhim is a unique experience. All accommodations, lodgings and fooding are offered at the individual houses on a rotational basis. Each host family provides clean bed, toilet and a family dining room. The visitors enjoy the evening with the host family, living with them, eating traditional foods and sleeping at their usual clean bed. Plain rice, Tibetan bread, Syakpa (Sherpa Stew), Potato, Tibetan tea and Briddhim local brew are offered. The visitor can also observe the local indoor rituals and cultural practices with the host family and go on village walks to see the lifestyle, traditions and customs of the people. Then the locals gather in the evening in their traditional costume, performing cultural songs and dances, welcoming the visitors. The host family guides the visitors, explaining the special features of the village, showing live craftsmanship, which the visitor gets the opportunity to buy first hand.

Day 08: bridim – shyapru besi (1503m) 3-4 hours

After breakfast, the trek descends down to Shyapru Besi which is just 3 hrs walk from Briddim. We go forward to North direction from the valley right side of Bhote Kosi River and then come back on the opposite side on our way back to Shyapru Besi. The trail follows through the terraced paddy and corn fields having slightly up and down; Shyabpru Besi can be reached within 4-5 hours walk. We have lunch and rest of the day is on our own. Day 9: syapru besi – Kathmandu 8-9 hours

Right after having the breakfast in early morning, we drive back to Kathmandu today. It takes 8 to 9 hrs to reach Kathmandu. The road is pitched but not wide enough. Hence, the driving is in a moderate pace.

 Day 10: Shopping /Rest in Kathmandu (1337m) or Bhaktapur (1401m) Sightseeing 3-4 hours

This day is free too. If you wish, a sightseeing trip to the ancient temple/king’s seat of the world heritage site of incredible Bhaktapur can be arranged.  The tour lasts 4 hours, and will cost an additional upcharge. In the evening, a Farewell Dinner is given by Himalayan Vacation Treks and Expedition.

 Day 11: Departure from Kathmandu (1337m)

A Himalayan Vacation Treks and Expedition staff representative will take our valuable guests to the airport (3 hours prior to your flight) and bid goodbye. It will be not only goodbye, but also the welcome for next visit to Nepal.
