Walking holidays Langtang &Helambu

Langtang Gosaikunda and Helamubu Trek is the most popular one the tourist love to make in Nepal. This is the nearest Himalayan Region from the capital city Kathmandu; just few hours’ drive from Kathmandu will take us to the beautiful Langtang region. In spite of being very close to Kathmandu, the Langtang Region is as natural as any Tibetan highlands with calm rural landscape. The people living in Langtang are Tamang who follow and practice Tibetan culture and tradition. So, the Langtang region trekking gives opportunity to witness a glance of Tibetan life style. The route that goes through the Rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls and view of snow-capped Himalayas make the trek one of the most different treks nearby Kathmandu. This trek is under the control of Langtang National Park.

Langtang Gosaikunda and Helambu Trek starts with a day’s bus ride from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. We begin the walk from Syabrubesi. We head upward to Lama Hotel and Langtang village until we arrive at the famous Kanyanjing Gompa. After exploring the region, we trek the same route up to Bambu then we head to Gosaikunda via Thulo Syabru village. We climb to Chandanbari (Shin Gompa) and come by beautiful nature including the sacred lakes of Gosainkunda – places of pilgrimage for both Hindus and Buddhists. On a special full moon day (Janai Purnima) that usually falls in August, countless pilgrims gather here for a ritual bath in the cold water. There are several Holy Kundas (sacred lakes) in Gosaikunda Region. After this region we come back to Kathmandu making trek through Helambu Region. Helambu is also inhabited by fascinating ethnic groups of Tamangs. One special aspect of this journey organized by Himalayan Vacation Treks and Expedition is that in the short time we’ll receive a representative picture of Nepal and the Himalayas.  On the whole trek we stay in lodges, which are sometimes basic in nature.

The devastating earthquake of April 25, 2015 completely ruined the Langtang region. Villages of this region along with the people and hotels/lodges were covered by the avalanche. The routes have been severely damaged due to the landslide after the earthquake. But now, the Nepal and government and the local people are working hard for its rebuild. Let’s hope the routes and the hotels/lodges in this area will be ready for trekking soon.

In this trek, there is good facility of communication since the internet, telephone and mobile service is available in the various points.
