The Annapurna Sanctuary, also known as the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek, is one of Nepal’s most iconic and classic trekking routes. Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, this breathtaking journey offers a 360-degree panorama of towering peaks and sprawling glaciers. Surrounding you are some of the world’s most majestic mountains, including Annapurna I and III, Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Glacier Dome, and the striking twin-peaked Machhapuchhare.
First brought to global attention in 1956 by a British explorer, the site was so awe-inspiring it was dubbed the “Sanctuary of the Gods.” Since then, the name Annapurna Sanctuary has been widely embraced.
This memorable trek begins in the lush, terraced foothills near Pokhara and winds through vibrant Gurung and Magar villages. The route follows the scenic Ghorepani–Chomrong–Dhampus ridge, offering stunning views at every turn. As we ascend, the vistas become ever more dramatic, culminating in the serene, high-altitude valley of Annapurna Base Camp itself.
Organized by Himalayan Vacation Treks and Expedition, this trek is graded as moderate and is ideal for those with a reasonable level of fitness. The route transitions from warm lowlands and rice fields to cool alpine landscapes and glacial terrain. Though there are a few steep sections, the trek is manageable and rewarding—making it suitable even for families with children.
Whether you’re an experienced hiker or a first-time trekker, the Annapurna Sanctuary trek promises a unique and unforgettable Himalayan adventure.
