One of the highlights of this section is crossing the impressive Larja Suspension Bridge, which soars high above the river. From there, the trail ascends steeply through pine forests and scenic switchbacks until we reach Namche Bazaar—the vibrant hub and administrative center of the Everest Region. For those who may require assistance or prefer a more relaxed ascent, horses are available for hire upon request in Namche Bazaar.
Day 05: Namche Acclimatization Day (3450m) Hiking Everest view hotel or Khumjung village (3790m)
Today We explore in Namche Bazaar and adjoining area for altitude acclimatization. Namche Bazaar is a Sherpa Village. The Sherpa people are famous, of course, for their abilities in high altitudes. Originally from Tibet, they have lived in the Khumbu Valley for centuries and have preserved their Tibetan Buddhist culture. We either go to Everest view hotel or Khumjung village one of the Sherpa settlements. From here we have panoramic view of Mahalungur Moutain range where Mt. Everest, Mt. Choyu, Mt. Amadablam etc can be seen just in front of us. In the winter it is cold and the population is low. In the trekking season, it is full and lively, with amenities for trekkers. Cafes, international restaurants, bakeries, shops, a museum, clubs, ATMs, as well as local Sherpa style food restaurants are to be found. Fridays and Saturdays regional out-door market is the tradition. People from far and near in the Khumbu Valley come to shop for, or to sell foods and goods.
Day 06: Namche –Thame(3800m) 4-5 hours
Today we will still acclimate. It is a pleasant walk to Thame through pine forests with splendid river canyon and mountain views, and with only small ups and downs. The trail heads off away from Everest, but along the river valley, always within close sight, are being 6,000+ peaks. Impressive as well are the trappings of the Buddhist culture, including large, carved Mani-rocks, great strings of prayer flags, chortens, and scripted paintings on cliff faces. Each major village of the region was established in the vicinity of a Buddhist Gompa monastery. We will visit the Gompa overlooking Thame, specially arranged by our Himalayan Vacation Treks and Expedition trekking guide. Overnight at lodge in Thame.
Day 07: Thame – Khumjung(3780m)3-4 hours
Today, we leave Thame and take a scenic alternate route toward Khumjung, passing through serene forests filled with cypress, pine, and juniper. The trail offers a peaceful and refreshing experience as we gradually approach one of the largest Sherpa settlements in the region. Khumjung is a culturally rich village, home to the famous Sir Edmund Hillary School and a local hospital—both established as part of Hillary’s legacy in the region. we’ll also have the opportunity to visit the village Gompa (monastery), which holds deep spiritual significance for the local community. Along the way and from various points in the village, Mount Everest once again comes into view, offering inspiring glimpses of its iconic peak
Day 08: Khumjung – Tengboche(3860m)3-4hours
The views of Everest and AmaDablam are excellent on today’s trek. We pass the small settlement of Sanasa from where the trail drops towards PhunkiThanga (3250m). From here the trail climbs steeply through forests as it follows the side of a hill to the saddle on which the Gompa of Tengboche sits. The view from here is deemed to be one of the world’s most magnificent. Kwangde (6187m), Tawachee (6542m), Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse (8501m), AmaDablam(6812m), Kantega(6782m) and Thamserku(6623m) give a panorama like none other. Our Himalayan Vacation treks and Expedition guide will escort us to the famous Tengboche Gompa monastery. On 19 January 1989, a fire devastated the Gompa, but most of the monastery’s extensive collection of books, paintings, and religious relics were saved. The building, destroyed, has been rebuilt through the efforts of the Sherpa people and with the help of international organizations. Each day the monks perform ceremonies at 6 am and 3 pm. Tourists may visit during these ceremonies, but the Rimpoche (head of the Gompa) has asked visitors to sit quietly on the right-hand side and to not take flash photos or otherwise disturb the ceremonies.
Day 09: Tengboche – Monjo (2835m) 5-6 hours
We start back, back down to Namche Bazaar, back on the main trail that in the other direction, climbs to Everest Base Camp. Staying only briefly in Namche, we go to Monjo for the night. This is in order that we may arrive in Lukla the next day relatively relaxed. As before, the route follows the Dudhkoshi River, though this time pleasantly downhill. We cross the same single wide wooden plank suspension bridges. In Monjo, if we wish, we can visit the Uche Chholing Gompa.
Day 10: Monjo–Lukla (2840m)4-5 hours
Returning to Lukla, we will spend the night. Arriving in the afternoon, we will have time to enjoy the hospitality of Lukla. Like Namche Bazaar, it is a central town with markets, restaurants, cafes, bakeries, bars, and banks. And as in Namche Bazaar, each Thursday, local people come for the weekly open-air market. As the trek is now over, in the evening we all, the Himalayan Vacation treks and Expedition guests and staff, have a party. The party is expected to be hosted by guest.
Day 11: Lukla – Kathmandu (1337) by flight 35 minutes to Kathmandu (1337m
