Standing With Rasuwa: Our Commitment to Search, Rescue and Rebuilding
A Message from Himalayan Vacation Treks & Expedition
Kathmandu, Nepal — 27 August 2026
At Himalayan Vacation Treks & Expedition, the mountains are not simply our workplace. They are our home. The people who live in Nepal’s mountain communities are our friends, colleagues and partners, and many of our trekking routes pass through communities that have welcomed travelers from around the world for generations.
That is why we are deeply saddened by the devastating flash floods that have struck the Rasuwa region.
The scale of this disaster is almost impossible to comprehend. At least 270 people have been confirmed dead, while more than 1,300 people are missing. Among those missing are hundreds of foreign nationals, including tourists and trekkers who were traveling through the region.
For us, this tragedy is personal.
We Cannot Stand By
As a trekking company based in Kathmandu, we have spent years working in Nepal’s mountains. We know the terrain, we know the communities and we know how difficult it can be to reach remote areas even under normal circumstances.
Following this devastating flood, we have decided that we must use our experience and our network to help.
We are therefore organising a dedicated expedition to Rasuwa to support search-and-rescue operations and assist with the rebuilding of affected communities.
Our team will work alongside local people and, where possible, coordinate with existing rescue and relief efforts. Our priorities will be to help locate those who remain missing, support survivors and provide practical assistance as communities begin the long process of rebuilding.
The destruction has been immense. Roads and bridges have been swept away, homes and businesses have been damaged or destroyed, and access to some communities remains extremely difficult.
A Mission Beyond Trekking
We are a trekking and expedition company, but at this moment our role must go beyond taking people into the mountains.
Our guides, staff and partners possess valuable local knowledge and experience of working in challenging Himalayan environments. We want to put those skills to work where they are needed most.
Our planned mission will focus on:
Supporting search-and-rescue activities in affected areas.
Helping transport essential supplies and equipment where access permits.
Supporting families and communities affected by the disaster.Assisting with the rebuilding of homes and essential community infrastructure.Continuing to support affected communities after the immediate emergency has passed.We understand that rebuilding will take much longer than the initial rescue operation. Our intention is not simply to arrive, provide short-term assistance and leave. We want to contribute to the recovery for as long as we are able.
We Need Your Help
To make this mission possible, we are asking for charitable donations from our friends, clients, partners and the international trekking community.
Every contribution can help us purchase supplies, organise transportation, support our field teams and contribute to rebuilding efforts.
For those who have travelled through Rasuwa, trekked in the Himalayas or simply fallen in love with Nepal, this is an opportunity to give something back to the communities that make these journeys possible.
We also welcome support from people who have never visited Nepal. The disaster has affected Nepali families as well as foreign tourists from many countries, and the scale of the humanitarian need is enormous.

“We cannot simply watch our communities suffer and do nothing. Rasuwa has given so much to Nepal and to visitors from around the world. Now it is our turn to stand with Rasuwa. We will do everything within our ability to support the search, rescue and rebuilding effort.”
Rasuwa Needs Us Now
The immediate priority is finding those who are still missing and helping those who have survived. But once the emergency phase ends, the work will only be beginning.
Families will need homes. Communities will need roads and bridges. Businesses will need to reopen. And the people of Rasuwa will need support as they begin to rebuild their lives.
