Shey Crystal Monastery in Tibetan. (Shelri Dugdra) and Shey Gompa is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimages of Nepal. It has a legendary connection to Buddhism, is located in north of the Phoksundo Lake in inner Dolpo with an altitude of 4160m from sea level, is the spiritual place of Dolpo. Being the spiritual place of inner Dolpo the trek into inner Dolpo is a revered and sacred holy place. His holiness Tuptop Singe Yeshe had enlightened from Shey-Gompa. The Crytal Mountain (Shelri Dugdra) is the major panoramic pilgrimage of Shey gompa. The crystal mountain (Shelri Dugdra) is also known as the younger brother of Mt. Kailash.
Shey Festival is celebrated every 12 years according to Tibetan lunar calendar. In the year of Dragon (Drug Lho), Shey Festival takes place in Shey Gompa Upper Dolpo. Shey Festival happens in the twelve-year cycle in the Buddhist calendar each year is represented by a different animal and each year with the importance of twelve different pilgrimages, which include Mt. Kailash in Tibet, Swayambhunath (Monkey temple) in Kathmandu, Shey Gompa in Dolpo, and many other places in the world. The last time Shey Festival happened was in 2012 and the next festival will take place in Shey Gompa in 2024 in the month of September.Inner Dolpo trek starts following Phoksundo river and to the lush green fields of Ringmo and the stunning blue Phoksumdo Lake. HV Treks annually organizes this trek in sept so that we Sept attend the Shey Festival. After a day rest & explore in this beautiful spot we continue across the Kang La(5360m) to Inner Dolpo and Shey Gompa. Then after we crosse the Shey La(5095m) to the largest village of Dolpo called Saldang. From Saldang we turn to east and crossing Jeng La to reach Dho Tarap. The end part of our trek, we descend downhill and walk along the Tarap river and Tarap river gorge to Lasicap, and then following Thuli Bheri River along Tarakot, Byasgad, Dunai and finally back to Juphal and fly to Kathmandu changing flight in Nepalgunj.

This season is noted for occasional snowfall at higher elevations in Himalayas. It is rainy season in Nepal. As it is the season of heavy rainfall. it is also known as the crops harvesting season in Nepal. In this season, trekking is slight difficult in Nepal. These times are blessed for the keen botanist as the higher valleys and meadows blossom with flowers and lush vegetation. Trekking in the rain-shadow (places are out of reach of the rain clouds because of the high mountains) areas north of the Himalaya like Upper Mustang and Dolpo could be an ideal trek selection.
